How a journalist from Monaco of Bavaria has become a jam producer on Lake Garda
This was Ms Karin Steinbacher’s choice to open her own laboratory of food specialties in Gardone Riviera, a few steps from Piazza del Vittoriale, under the porch near the Piazza dei Caduti. Tourists and curious alike are attracted by the small tables outside the shop laden with baskets of goodies.
Lake Garda has always been in Karin’s heart and her love has led to the choice of Gardone as the seat of her business. Here there is also an adequate space for food processing. The small store has a back room used as a laboratory for making cedar, lemon, tangerine and bitter orange marmelades. Karin also prepares vegetables in oil and vinegar, dried tomatoes, red pesto, lemon and walnut liquor. The produce used are all from Garda.
The marketing began with the Christmas markets in Germany and with the chance meeting with representatives of Manufactum, a German company who owns a successful chain of specialty stores in Germany. Karin’s products met their taste and the first orders started to come.
Many of the best hotels in the area offer their customers these specialities on the breakfast buffet.
